For two years, GoDaddy's API was effectively closed to small accounts: from May 2024 you needed 10 or more domains (50 for some endpoints) before the API would even authenticate, which broke certificate automation and monitoring for thousands of small operators overnight. In April 2026 GoDaddy reversed course — any account with a single domain can now create API tokens. That makes GoDaddy zones importable into DNS Spy for everyone, from a one-domain small business to a portfolio of thousands. If you tried to automate against GoDaddy in the last two years and gave up at an ACCESS_DENIED error, it works now.
GoDaddy's DNS manager tells you what your records are supposed to be. It doesn't tell you when one of them changes at 2 a.m., whether every nameserver is serving the same answer, or that a record quietly vanished during a support call or a website product migration. DNS Spy imports your zone through the API for complete coverage, then watches every record from resolvers around the world — so a hijacked account, a mis-clicked delete, or a forwarding product silently rewriting your A records becomes an alert in your inbox or Slack within minutes, not a discovery weeks later when mail stops arriving.
GoDaddy accounts tend to grow: the main business domain, the campaign microsites, the defensive registrations, the domain someone bought at 1 a.m. with big plans. Each carries a zone, and each zone accumulates records — office365 verification TXTs, CNAMEs for site builders long since cancelled, A records pointing at hosting that no longer exists. DNS Spy imports every active domain in the account in one pass, keeps a versioned history of every record's value over time, and re-syncs on a schedule so domains and records you add later are discovered automatically. Dangling records pointing at abandoned infrastructure are subdomain-takeover bait — DNS Spy's Security Center flags them before someone else finds them.
In the GoDaddy Developer Portal, create a Personal Access Token.
Grant it only the read scopes DNS Spy needs: domains.domain:read and domains.dns:read.
Paste the token into DNS Spy under Team Settings → DNS Providers, then click Test Connection.

Create a Personal Access Token in the GoDaddy Developer Portal with the domains.domain:read and domains.dns:read scopes, connect it to DNS Spy, and import your domains. Every record is monitored from multiple resolver locations worldwide, with alerts via email, Slack, Discord, or PagerDuty when any record changes, disappears, or goes out of sync between nameservers.
Not anymore. That restriction, introduced in May 2024, was removed in April 2026 — any GoDaddy account with at least one domain can now create API tokens. If you hit ACCESS_DENIED errors in the past, the same integration works today.
The token you provide needs only the two read scopes — DNS Spy never writes to your zones, and a read-scoped token can't transfer, renew, or edit anything. Tokens are stored encrypted and never displayed again after saving. If the token stops working, DNS Spy pauses that connection and emails your team owner; resolver-based monitoring continues unaffected.
No. GoDaddy does not offer AXFR zone transfers, so the API is the only way to enumerate a complete zone — which is exactly what DNS Spy's provider sync automates, with recurring re-checks so records you add later are discovered automatically.
DNS Spy always monitors the nameservers your domain actually delegates to. Provider sync imports the record list from GoDaddy's zone, but if your domain points at Cloudflare, Route 53, or another DNS host, connect that provider instead — or just add the domain normally and DNS Spy discovers its records from the live nameservers automatically.
