DNS Provider Sync · Linode / Akamai
The Linode DNS Manager has quietly run production DNS for two decades — now under the Akamai banner. DNS Spy connects with a read-only token and watches every record it serves.
No credit card required · 7-day trial · Read-only API access
Linode's token system is one of the cleanest in the industry for this use case: a personal access token can be scoped to exactly "Domains: Read Only" with every other permission set to None. DNS Spy asks for precisely that. The token can't touch your Linodes, volumes, or billing — it can only list zones and read records, which is everything a DNS monitor needs and nothing it doesn't.
The Linode API has personality. SRV records store their service and protocol as separate fields and the API assembles the underscored name for you. A TTL of 0 doesn't mean zero — it means "use the default." The records endpoint doesn't include the SOA or the default ns1–ns5.linode.com NS records, because those live at the domain level. DNS Spy's importer understands all of it: SRV hosts are assembled correctly, default TTLs are normalized, and the monitoring you get matches what Linode's nameservers actually serve.
Linode's absorption into Akamai has been gradual and mostly seamless — but infrastructure transitions are exactly when quiet DNS changes happen: nameserver behavior updates, IP ranges shift, defaults change. Independent monitoring from outside the Linode/Akamai network means you're comparing your zone against what global resolvers actually return, not against what any single provider's dashboard claims. If something changes underneath you, you'll know.
In Linode/Akamai Cloud Manager, go to My Profile → API Tokens and create a Personal Access Token.
Set every scope to None except Domains, which gets Read Only.
Paste the token into DNS Spy under Team Settings → DNS Providers and click Test Connection.
Import your domains — master and slave zones both list, each with its full record inventory.
Read more about how imports, recurring sync, and resolver-based monitoring work on the DNS Provider Sync feature page.
Create a personal access token in Cloud Manager (My Profile → API Tokens) with only "Domains: Read Only" scope, connect it to DNS Spy, and import your domains. Every record is monitored from resolvers worldwide with change alerts through your configured channels.
Yes. Both zone types list in the import picker. For slave zones, DNS Spy monitors what Linode's nameservers serve — useful independent verification that your primary is propagating correctly to Linode.
Linode stores SRV service and protocol as separate API fields. DNS Spy assembles the full _service._protocol record name during import and monitors the complete SRV answer — priority, weight, port, and target — as resolvers see it.
Linode's AXFR support is designed for secondary nameservers you whitelist via axfr_ips. It works with DNS Spy's zone-transfer mode too, but the API integration is simpler: no IP whitelisting, no per-domain setup, and new domains in your account are discovered automatically.
Connect with a read-only token, import every record, and get alerted the moment anything changes. Free for 7 days.
