Wix Nameservers

Wix assigns each domain a numbered pair of nameservers under wixdns.net, such as ns2.wixdns.net and ns3.wixdns.net. Wix's own guides use ns1 and ns2 only as examples and say to use the pair shown in your account, because it differs between domains.

Nameserver pattern (your exact pair is assigned per domain)

  • nsX.wixdns.net
  • nsY.wixdns.net

Checked against Wix's own documentation on October 14, 2026. Sources are listed below.

Find the pair assigned to your domain

In your Wix account, go to Domains. The domain setup instructions show the exact Wix nameservers to use for that domain.

Check which nameservers a domain uses right now

Your account shows what you configured. The registry shows what the internet actually uses, and the two can differ while a change is in flight. To see the live answer, query the NS records:

dig NS example.com +short

Or run a free DNS scan, which reads the delegation and every record from each authoritative nameserver, and use the DNS propagation checker with the NS record type to watch a change reach resolvers worldwide.

How to change Wix nameservers

  1. 1

Go to Domains in your Wix account.

  2. 2

Click the Domain Actions icon next to the domain and select Manage DNS records.

  3. 3

Scroll to Nameservers and click Use custom nameservers.

  4. 4

Fill in Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2, then click Continue.

  5. 5

Tick the confirmation box and click Switch nameservers. Reset to Wix in the same section reverts it.

Good to know

  • Connecting a domain to Wix by nameservers requires a paid Wix plan.
  • With custom nameservers, Wix no longer manages the domain's DNS, which affects DNS records, SSL renewal and email.
  • Wix does not support DNS proxies such as Cloudflare in front of a Wix site.

What breaks when nameservers change

Changing nameservers moves every DNS record for the domain to a new provider at once. The common failures:

  • Email stops arriving because the MX, SPF and DKIM records were not copied to the new provider.
  • The website or a subdomain goes dark because one A or CNAME record was missed.
  • The domain fails to resolve for validating resolvers because an old DNSSEC DS record no longer matches.
  • For a day or two, some resolvers still ask the old provider, so edits made there keep showing up for some users.

DNS Spy checks every record on every authoritative nameserver at least every ten minutes and alerts you the moment one changes or disappears, so a migration mistake shows up before your customers notice. See how DNS monitoring works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wix nameservers end in wixdns.net, and each domain gets a numbered pair such as ns2.wixdns.net and ns3.wixdns.net. Wix's help articles show ns1 and ns2 only as examples, so do not copy those. Use the exact pair Wix shows for your domain in the Domains section of your account.

Yes. In Domains, open Manage DNS records for the domain, scroll to Nameservers and choose Use custom nameservers. Once you switch, Wix stops managing the domain's DNS, so recreate your website, SSL and email records at the new provider. Reset to Wix in the same section reverts the change.

Not as a proxy. Wix does not support DNS proxies such as Cloudflare in front of a Wix site. You can host the domain's DNS elsewhere and point records at Wix, but connecting by nameservers means using the Wix pair, and that option needs a paid Wix plan.
